Wellner Cutlery and Tableware Factory

Historical records of ore mining in the Ore Mountains begin in 1168, when silver ores were discovered in the vicinity of today's Freiberg. More than 800 years of mining history of the Ore Mountains are based on this discovery.

The Wellner Cutlery and Tableware Factory is another extraordinary and unique example of a post-mining industry based on the discovery of German silver, a silver-like copper-zinc-nickel alloy, which formed the basis for the development of the important cutlery and tableware manufacturing industry in Aue. The high-grade products manufactured here were sold worldwide. The company was founded back in 1834. Its prestigious administrative and production buildings date from the start of the 20th century.
