An important geotope, the Roter Kamm (red crest) is located at the Zechenplatz in Bad Schlema. Its rock formation is a rare aboveground document of the large-scale tectonic fault line, which has particular significance for the ore deposits in the Ore Mountains. The Roter Kamm fault zone splits the Schlema and Schneeberg mining fields and played an important role in exploiting these uranium deposits after the Second World War.
